In Mara Heuer’s holiday menagerie, the casting choices get playfully unexpected. A sly yellow critter and a cheerfully off model Ninja Turtle don matching Santa hats, floating in a haze of lavender brushstrokes. Pencil and acrylic sit in loose, scratchy layers, giving both figures the look of half remembered toys summoned from the deep archives of childhood. It’s a celebration of the season’s stranger personalities, the ones who show up uninvited and drink the mulled wine dry.
