Dorothea Lange

Dorothea Lange (American, 1895-1965) was a documentary photographer whose Depression-era work, much of it commissioned by the Farm Security Administration, chronicled life across the United States. Traveling through California and the Midwest, Lange documented sharecroppers and migrant laborers facing severe rural poverty, bringing national attention to the displacement and hardship of the country’s most vulnerable communities.
