Agnes Goodsir (Australian, 1864–1939) was an Australian portraitist who found her artistic voice in Paris. Born in Portland, Victoria, she studied in Bendigo before heading to Europe, training at top Parisian academies including Delécluse, Julian, and Colarossi. Though she started late, Goodsir built a reputation for refined, modern portraits: often of women, including her partner Rachel Dunne, who appears in multiple works under the title *The Parisienne*.
She exhibited widely across Paris and London, returning briefly to Australia in 1927 for successful solo shows. Her work was included in major exhibitions like the 1938 sesquicentennial in Sydney. Known for her tonal subtlety and psychological depth, Goodsir quietly challenged convention from within the portrait format. She lived most of her later years in Paris, where she died in 1939.
